Born to a hunter and a herbalist Katriona grew up in the deep woods of the Dravanian Forelands. The valley of forest she resided in remained largely untouched by the Dragonsong war, thought to be blessed by Halone herself, her parents settled in a small cottage, far away from society. Katriona grew up learning the tricks and trades of both hunting and herbalism, her bowskills were only matched by that of her ability to communicate and tame even the most feral of beasts. Occasionally her father would bring her along on trading trips, to the nearby towns where she would quickly find her pale skin drew quite a bit of attention.Her life changed when one particularly sadistic and malicious Nobleman of house Dzemael discovered their thicket, on a drunken "dragon hunting" expedition, decided to exact a new tax upon them, ordering their daughter to his bedside, and murdering both of her parents when they refused, blaming them for "heresy", and burning down her childhood home.Katriona was spared, or cursed, to serve the Nobleman, keeping a special interest in her beauty and skills, she was forced to tame beasts, train them and hunt them for the lord, along with being his personal handmaid, always under a strict watch, with a spectral knife at her spine, and a chain around her neck. That is, until one fateful evening, her master's guard was let down, and she claimed her revenge. Upon driving a forgotten dagger into the spine of her abuser she sat and watched him drown in his bath.Naked and alone, fate rewarded her tenacity and bravery with a guardian angel, a lone dark knight, pursuing the injustices her lord had brought upon many burst forth through the door, finding his mark already dying, gurgling the remainder of his breath in a sinister laugh. And before the fresh corpse-in-making a pale figure, hands stained red, tears streaming down her face. Under his wing, he took the scarred animal, and taught her of the ways the dark knight, and relinquished unto her his own stone.In the time since she has earned her freedom, she has found the ruins of her old homestead, the last surviving thing was a bestiary her parents had been working on, with a tearful goodbye, and a mound of stones to mark a grave of her childhood, she moved onward. In their memory, she has decided to carry on their work, cataloguing outstanding beasts, tribes and their customs, and all things living, and some that are not.
